Wyoming and Colorado
Some Wyoming BDR--some Wyoming TAT and some Wyoming CDR--------and
some
Big
Doggin'
Roun
Me and my buddy Steve Fritchley (Loosenut)
loaded up our bike in my Transit van with all our gear
and headed to Baggs, Wyoming which is where the Wyoming BDR starts and also
the Wyoming
TAT passes through--and the CDR is very near..
And much thanks to the Backcountry Discovery Route guys for providing us another
Great BDR route.
Where we stayed and ate in Baggs
My other good buddy Dingweeds will arrive
later---but while we are waiting we go for a ride down in Colorado.
Most of the day was spent on the CDR---I haven't been on this section of it
since 2004 when I rode the whole thing
on my KLR.
The only thing I immediately recognized from 2004 was this mail box----it's still there.
I need one of these-----someone took out our
brick mailbox at home years ago.
The lady took out my neighbors mailbox---hit mine going sideways--flew in the
air up into the farmers field
and rolled several times coming to a rest after hitting a telephone pole-------and
got out immediately with
her cell phone in her hand. Said she'd pay for
my mailbox but never did--drives by it every day !!!!
Wish I had this one.
North of Steamboat springs I got sweepy.
I would be riding my 2021 KTM 390 Adventure
Loosenut rode his Honda Africa Twin Adventure
It was here we rescued a calf-------see her
on the left side of the barb wire fence ??
We guided her to her momma--and she was so happy.
Moos all around !!!!!
Building clouds all around ----------but it
never rained.
We got on one dirt road really beat up from cattle and if it had rained we would
have been stuck.
For this day ride we carried no camping gear.
We ended the day back at our motel in Baggs--------the
Cowboy Inn.
Good eats there too !!
Video of the Ride down in Colorado---no Dingweeds
yet.

The next day we moved my van and bikes to
the Boyer Ranch---Dingweeds showed up later in the day and
we left our trucks there-----Dingweeds had drove in from Utah from his ranch--The
3-Step Hideaway.
The Boyer Ranch--many BDR riders stay here or visit.
Dingweeds showed up and we meet the owners
of the Boyer ranch-----on the left.
The Ranch has been in the family since the early 1800's.
Jacque had been a professional bicycle racer all over the world and has lived
in Africa a lot.
He has a big KTM ADV bike too and welcomes riders.
And I get "sweepy" again.
A very nice creek runs thru the ranch---and the Boyer property goes up into those mountains.
There are many cabins and other places to
stay other than the main house.
The next pics are in the main house which is where we slept.
This was a blue bird bus on the property-------available to rent.
I've never seen a piano like that.
This is what I think was a sheep herders wagon-----available to rent.
They served us breakfast here-------notice the writing on the chalk board.
Me and Dingweeds stored our tow vehicles on the property out of the way.
We said our goodbyes and were on our way to
Centennial Wyoming for the day----------section one of the BDR
What a cool place to stay----they were the nicest people and shared stories
to us of their travels all
over the world.
That's the ranch in the trees as we left.
The ranch is pretty much on a dead end road and right on the BDR---but out of
there
you go right up a steep loose rocky hill I suppose most people don't travel
on.
Entering Aspen valley--------I hadn't see
this since 2004 on the CDR.
Seems the aspens were dying ?????
My favorite riding now in my old age is a damp dirt road that is easy riding.
Me and Dingweeds have been from the Southern
tip of Baja to the Arctic ocean in Alaska and all points in between.
We had many very long stories to share with Steve (Loosenut).
He enjoyed them all-------------I think !!!!
This guy offered to come to my hometown and
feed me at Cracker Barrel--but timing was a day off.
Super nice guy we ran into many times out on the trail.
We ended the day in Centennial, Wyoming at the same motel Itchy Boots stayed at many days before us.

Centennial To Alcova, Wyoming
8-16-22
This the moutain that a huge passenger airplane
crashed into.
The aircraft operating the service, a Douglas DC-4 propliner, registration N30062,
crashed into Medicine Bow Peak, near Laramie, Wyoming, on October 6, 1955,
killing all 66 people on board (63 passengers, 3 crew members).
A pic I grabbed off the web
The weather was juicy around us a lot-----but
we never got rained on or hit any impassable when wet roads
when they were muddy.
Just before the town of Elk Mountain we ran
across this cool old Mac truck.
We stayed here and hour looking this thing over.
I had been been here before a few years ago as this section is also the route
of
Sam Correro's Wyoming TAT-------and awesome ride that is on my website.
We rode thru this short but sweet old mining
site with a wind farm off in the distance.
As with all days with us----we started off with cool mornings----and pleasant
80° temps
during the day-------perfect.
Maybe my favorite picture
We ended up in Alcova, Wyoming at a gas station
and lo and behold they had a cabin out back.
We ordered a pizza at the gas station and a nice gal delivered it to our cabin.
My buddy Loosenut-------he's got your back if you ride with him.
You'll never meet a happier pleasant guy to be around.
And besides his pretty face------------he can cook !!!!
And what a cute butt !!! ???????????
He had bought all kinds of stuff at the store
next door and cooked our breakfast in our cabin.
Look at all the stuff we had to eat and drink.
Nice T-shirt Dingweeds !!
I can't cook--but sure can eat.
Dingweeds is always cooking and waiting on people at his ranch---nice to see
him not having
to do anything.
Our Cabin

Super bad luck with our video cameras.
The ones you've seen were taken by Steve and his SD card got full and he didn't
have another.
My GoPro--------shit the bed again and I lost everything.
I loved my KTM 690 till it blew up----I love Go Pros until they
shit the bed----------it's happened so many times with different ones.
GGGGrrrrrrrrrrr!!!!!! I hate those things.
Anyway--------on with the story.
My son is trying to salvage the videos on my corrupt SD card.
Alcova to Atlantic City, Wyoming next
We stopped at this neat overlook----the pony
express trail was in the valley below us
along with wagon ruts from all the wagons heading West.
I could see the ruts down there.
This location was called Split Rock
What ????
The next few pictures were taken at the Beaver
Rim Overlook.
Marked on the BDR route.
Loosenut would have preferred to ride his
WR250R on this ride.
But it was thought he might have to ride 1,500 miles back home by himself as
his daughter
was about due to have a baby and he might have to leave us.
Many other riders rode by as we lolly gagged here.
The only shade within 500 miles !!!!!
There were 4 gals out here riding together--this
one knew Dingweeds.
She does rider clinics I think.

I got sweepy again--------man I was wore out.
But sent my 2 buddies on to some places nearby.
I've ridden with Steve a lot and warned Dingweeds
that Steve would barge thru stuff
no matter what-------I've seen him do that.
I think dingweeds talked him out of this one.
They also visited the big mine nearby in South Pass City.
Atlantic City to Baggs
It was no problem timewise for me to go on
this ride---but was a different story for my buddies.
Dingweeds temporary help back at his ranch bailed on him------and Loosenuts
daughter was having a baby.
So off we go back to Baggs but find an interesting route mostly riding Sam Correros
Wyoming TAT.
Here is our cabin in Atlantic City------it had no A/C but you don't need it.
Had a full kitchen and bathroom and 3 places to lay your head.
I even had a wheelchair ramp to walk up and down.
The old part of this cabin was built in the 1800's.
This is the old part--the new addition had all the plumbing
And off we went
As far a riding gear suitable for the weather
we rode it--------I nailed it.
I had planned on wearing my armored Kilimanjaro Jacket and my KLIM traverse
gortex pants
which neither one vent well.
I would have died out there------it never got really hot but I can't take the
heat anymore.
So at the last second I put on my KLIM Mojave pants and KLIM mesh Jacket with
armor which breathe
like your naked---and if it got rainy or cold I had a light weight gortex shell
to put over me.
What casual clothes did I pack-----the same thing I packed when I rode to Alaska---one
light weight pair of cargo pants
with removeable lower legs---that's it.
What other clothes did I pack ??? None----the same as I Packed when I went to
Alaska for a month.
If you pack non cotton clothes you don't need but one pair of socks, one shirt
and so on...........
Back at the Boyer Ranch our tow vehicles were
still there parked next to this old truck which
I'm sure was an old fixture of the ranch.
I got something to say here...........
I've had some health issues this last year and was not sure I could do this
ride at all.
I was seriously worried as my riding, stabiliy and stamina is not what it used
to be.
Besides my riding buddies that understood my situation and had my back------no
matter what.
My wife was positive and encouraged me to try it.
She wrote a note above my desk.
It reads
Everyone has bad days.
Don't give up
Pause
Reset
Restart
But never quit
Pick yourself up and keep going
I luv you Debi !!!!
