Southwest 2020 Part 5
The Final Part
February 25th, 2020
Today we ride pieces of the Arizona BDR we hadn't ridden.
A bit of trouble today tho as I has loaded the original BDR tracks into my
gps and didn't know
there were private property issues that popped up and they had changed the
route.
So a bit of re--routing was done.
Still on the old route it went thru parts of the Empire
ranch and got on some nasty deep sand.
I think that was part of the reason for the re-route also as big bikes complained
of it.
I got thru the deep stuff fine----then when it got easy-----my bike got tired.
A Short Video
So.........the next day..........loaded with the new tracks
we set out again.
Riding the new AZBDR all the way from camp in Patagonia to Mammoth, Arizona.
Jeff on the XR650R........sat this one out as his arm was hurting him.
R s
Casey's KTM 350 EXC has about 15,000 miles on it and ran like a top the whole ride.
Riding into the Empire ranch again........we find the new route and it was spectacular.
Heading much farther North I spied what looked like a ghost
town.
It was an old movie set.
We've been in AZ for over a month and finally get into Saguaro cactus country...I love those things.
This was a 2 day ride----we got a room in Oracle, AZ before
heading back South.
It was very cold all day and I kept my heated vest and grips on all day--------and
was comfy.
This is the famous Redington road near Tuscon.
You can't ride the control road over Mt. Lemmon this time
of year as it's closed and snowed in.
So I find this little ranch road that by-passes it and also keeps us out of
busy Tuscon.
It was probably noon or after when I took this picture----the
water trough for cows was
frozen over----that's not a piece of glass Allan is holding.
My favorite road of the whole 2-day ride.
Drops down into the Redington Road.
I've ridden in Arizona a lot over the years......and it
was probably over ten years ago
I first saw this cactus with the tires on it--------one is a dirt bike tire.
The road was dirt back then---------but is paved now.
I'd noticed Casey eye-ballin my Honda 250 rally all day.
He finally had to sit on it back at camp.
What fun guys to ride with.
