2023 Kawasaki KLX300

I bought this bike used and it had 54 miles on it.
and had a Kouba Lowering link already installed. I can flat foot the bike easily---at
71 years of age I need that.
Story is the young man that bought it new had a lot of dirt riding buddies.
I'm talking bikes that weighed 220 lbs. and liked to waller in the mud and ride stingle track.
This bike would suck doing that------so he traded it in on a "DIRT" bike.
And that's where I came in.

 

I missed my Yamaha XT250 I sold a while back and went to a bike shop to buy another.
I know------what was a dumb ass.
Got down there and they didn't have an XT250------but had this.
It weighed only 11 lbs. more than my XT and has way better suspension than my
XT or my Honda 250 Rally I had. The rally was way too tall.--------this one had already been
lowered and I could flat foot it.

 

 

 

So would I leave it alone or make it suit me.
Not much to be done for what I was going to do with it.
Probably day rides-----I'm gettin older and riding across country is
something I've had to let go-----------cry, cry, cry.

 

 

 

 

 

 

This is the smaller tail bag from Rigg Gear. For now I've just remove the stock tool bag that was there and bolted
this one in it's place.

 

 

 

The mirrors are called Double Take Mirrors.

 

 

I mounted my Garmin Montana here------it blocks the left side of the dash---but that is just stuff I don't need to look at
often such as the trip meter. The speedo is plainly visible---the tach is too, but after racing and riding for over 50 years
I don't need to see the tach anyway---I can feel what the motor is doing.
Power to the heated grip controller was tapped into behind the headlight------a brown wire which is only hot when
the ignition is turned on. This controller will remember where you had it set----so when you start the bike,
just touch any button and they will go back to that setting.

I did also run a wire straight from the battery to my tankbag to run my heated vest.
And I put a switch on my headlight........this bike doesn't have the 350 watt alternator ouput
my old Yamaha WR250R had. Got to be careful------I added a switch to my headlight
so if I'd rather be warm than have my headlight on.

 

 

Power to my gps is hot all the rime------unless I turn it off by the push button switch where my finger is pointing.
I don't want my gps shutting off when I turn the key off as the Montana will turn off whether you want it to or not.
Hot all the time power was taken from a white wire behind the headlight.

Really liking it-------like I said I can flat foot the bike since it's lowered and after shortening the
kick stand a half inch or so it makes it easier to get on and off for me.
It's smooth---6 speed transmission and all the power I need to poke around the backroads
at 42 mph looking at stuff.

 

 

 

Replaced the wolfman water proof tank bag with a Tusk tankbag---I have the large one on my KTM390 but this is the small one.
Not waterproof but comes with a WP cover. I like this a lot better--------a bit bigger, has some organizing pockets
and the zippers are way easier to operate. It's so much better it's worth the trouble to put on the rain
cover if needed.

 

 

Seat Concepts seat-----this is the "gripper" seat. Anybody that has has one of these know they
are way more comfy. I bought the one that was already mounted to a seat pan and it was a
3 minute install (more pricey)and I have my old seat as a spare. I think about $325 ????

 

 

 

 

I installed Tusk pannier racks with the quick release system.
I can use my hard panniers if I want----but doubt if I ever will.
As I'll use my wolfman expedition soft bags I've custom modified for quick release use.
There are 2 sizes of these hard panniers------Medium and Large.
Mine are the Mediums-----they dont' make a small.
The hard bags probably will go on my KTM 390.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Here are the Wolfman 18 Litre expedition bags I modified for use on the quick release racks.
You'll not want to do this----as I did a lot of things to these bags to make it work and eliminate the top straps completely.
