Summer 2023 More Fun in Southern Illinois
Poking around the Shawnee National Forest in Southern Illinois
I found some more interesting stuff.

I first camped at Fern Clyffe State Park then moved to Alto Pass.

 

I hauled my Honda CT125 and my Hummer "By Recon" 2 wheel drive E-bike to the overlook
where you can see the magnificent Bald Knob Cross in the distance------look close.
This ain't Colorado mountains by no means, but it's what we got and I think they are beautiful.

 

 

This trail has a lot of significance to me.
Lot's of things I'm not going to tell on here.
But..........I will tell a very, very, very, very long time ago in a galaxy far away
me and a buddy did ride the 8 miles thru here on our "Pedal" mountain bikes.
It is extreme single track and very hilly and crossed a significant creek---we carried our bikes quite a bit.
Also a friend of mine died about 2 years ago hiking this trail------maybe the year 2021 ??????
A mounument is out there somewhere where he died------I'm damn near to old now to go see it-------but I want to.
The forest service said they'd dedicate the trail to him but haven't.

 

 

And here we are........a long, long, long, long, long, long time ago------maybe the 1800's ???
We did it and lived to tell about it.
We pushed the bikes and rested most of the time.

 

Boring under the Mississippi river in Grand Tower, Illinois.
For the new gas line.

 

On October 24th, 2023 2 workers were killed and 2 injured on this project.

 

 

 

This is a marker for the old gas line-not the new one.
