Home On The Range
Part 2
Still camping at Bighorn National Recreation area we unload
the Honda CB500X for a road ride today.
I had a great ride on my 250 yesterday so it was time for Debi to have some
fun on the bike.
We had ate breakfast in the motorhome that morning and
just had coffee and huckleberry pie here.
This is at Burgess Junction, Wyoming.
It was here on a Mobius ride years ago me, Dr. Rock and Francine met another
rider who joined us.
That didn't go well as he was on a big BMW and it didn't take long for him
to crash many times and
finally hurting himself.
Keep in mind Debi was wanting to see a bear and I put her
on high alert as this was
definitely bear country-------I've ridden around here a lot over the years.
No........Deb.........that's not a bear.......but still something to be aware
of and cautious with.
All the riding today took place on hwy 14A and 14 East
of Lovell, Wyoming.
There is no way me or Debi could have hiked up this incredibly steep climb.
It was neat watching those that did tho.
Your gonna see a bear Debi.........keep looking.
This moose might be saying---------"I'm not a bear"
Several mooses crossed in front of us and we stopped and
watched.
Same as a grizzly---a moose will attack and hurt or kill you if bothered.
Good thing------------he won't eat you too.
Before the last moose jumped the fence he very slowly swung
his head around and stared me down.
Gave me the willy's. We kept our distance and I made sure we had an escape
route and down
the road we went.......still looking for a bear. But this was exciting enough
for me.
Debi says..........look at al those bales of hay...............nope...........sheep.
On the way back I had secured Debi a hanky from some nice
people in a motorhome.
It made breathing for her easier in the very cool and crisp air.
I had the camera but handed it back to Debi and she got some great photos---and my best side.
A Short Update Video
We did a good 200 miles on the 500 and Debi did just fine.
She hasn't ridden with me much at all the last 10 years.
Our neighbors-------2 brothers and these did extreme hiking
and were on another level than
me and Debi.
We stayed here for a few days and did a neat hike, rode the bicycles and went
to a late nite concert
at the nearby marina. The band was doing their first gig and were very nervous---but
they did great.
They were very young---------but played my kind of music......Credenced Clearwater
and other
bands of that era. I was impressed. I guess I didn't take any pictures of
any of this.
We finally left the Bighorn area a drove up into Montana
looking for a remote campsite (free) ???
It got late and we stayed in a campground that didn't suit our style at all---kind
of a KOA type
campground------but we had been totally disconnected from the world at the
Bighorn area and needed
to check in on things--------a disaster had happened at our home. Lightning
hit our power pole and burnt
up the meter box and pole and some wiring. I needed to figure out what to
do with that. Long story short
friends helped out a lot-----a good friend of mine I had know for 40 years
was an electrical contractor
fixed everything up for us. I said "fix things like they should be done........don't
call me with questions...
just fix it......text me a bill and I'll get a check in the mail pronto.......and
that is what happened.
Thanks Kevin !!!!
The next day we visited 3 Rivers, Montana.
This is a very historic area as Lewis and Clark floated up the Missouri river
here.
And it's where the Missour joined 2 other rivers..............thus 3 Rivers,
Montana.
I've been here many times and always wanted to ride the bicycle trail from
town out to the start park.........but
alas.........I had no bicycle. They'd rent you one......but as with motorcycles
it wouldn't be set up at all
like I'd like it.
The Sacajaweja Motel..........and stuff around it.
It was a glorius day and the motel gave us permission to
park our motorhome there and we unloaded
the bicycles----------and the ride was just awesome.
And Didi got to go. She loves riding in the trailer.
All you have to do is un-zip the trailer door and she jumps in.
I wonder if debi could fit in there ?????
The bicycle only path was paved all the way and we talked
to the nice lady who lived here
and put these bicycle decorations out.
We probably rode about 25 miles that day.
Our next campsite.........Twin Bridges, Montana.
Mind you while traveling we always took the road less traveled......albeit
paved.
We traveled oh so slowly and stopped and looked at everything...took lots
of breaks and just took
life in very slowly------we were never in a hurry.
Working folks hurrying to places cause they didn't get out of bed early enough
to travel
safely and courteously weren't so happy with our pace. Slow down........your
going to have
a heart attack.
Did I say relax...........I think I did.
We camped here at Twin Bridges for several days enjoying the little town.........hiking
and
bicycling and playing with Didi in the nice grass.
The Beaverhead river is just behind Debi--the river soothed us to sleep and
the weather
was perfect-------we called home the weather was extremely awful----let's
not go home
till it cools off................and we didn't.
Me, Dingweeds and many other friends have ridden all around
here a lot.
I struggled all evening to find a road I hadn't ridden on.
Bingo !!!!!!
I made an all day ride out of this dirt road. I was alone
and rode very cautiously.
This road starts at Ruby reservoir and goes West.
A short video to catch up
After a few days camping in Twin Bridges (camping was free
by the way--but we left a donation)
Spent hours at the old ghost town of Bannack, Montana.
Debi's shoutin' out the good word to all the sinners in there........(me).
Sorry to gloat............but I've been here before.....
and wasn't sure Debi would enjoy this stop.
She loved it and thanked me many times for bringing her here.
By the way.......Debi had never been in Nebraska, Wyoming, Montana, Utah or
Idaho before this trip.
When I started dating her she'd had almost never been out of our home town...how
things have changed.
We finally moved on to Wisdome, Montana for a great lunch.
We were looking for a free campground and I found it.
Did I say free...........yes I did..........freeeeeeeeee !!!!
See that eagle...............he came with in inches of
snatching up our little doggy Didi.
Debi saved the day and the eagle sat there the whole time waiting for us to
let Didi out again.
The next day we drove a whole 30 miles to our next campsite...Mays
forest service campground---------we
stayed here for days. Still in Montana..............but barely.
$3.50 a nite with my geezer pass (old).
Our stay here was oh so memorable............I had no idea
what fun we'd have here.
Guy on left...............me.
Guy in middle...........camp host who spent his whole life doing the Nashville
music thing.
He had played with and rubbed elbows with all the old country stars...he didn't
brag but I was so
interested in his stories.............good guitar player.
I hate bagpipe and accordian music................but had a change of heart.
This guy is one of the best
in the world and played with the best accordian players in the world---the
guy on the Lawrence Welk Show.
We played for hours on end..........he seemed to know any
song I could come up with.
So.........as a joke I said "I bet you can't play In-A-Gadda-Davida"............he
did.......bout fell out of my chair.
I'll never forget these guys and the fun we had.
Here is their camsite and fire............all these people
were alot older than me and came over to our
camp and asked us if we wanted some firewood..............well......yeh.
They brought us enough firewood to last for days and we even came home with
some of it in our trailer.
They didn't have it at camp---------they went out and cut it and split it
for us.
Felt sorry for us I guess...........from then on Debi had a fire each nite
and in the morning.
Our camp host was traveling and living full time in a 1962
greyhouns bus he modified.
Where the heck is the pictures I took of it ???? In the cloud I guess......wherever
that is.
I practiced a lot here----------I was the least talented.......good
thing they didn't ask me to sing
I would have been run out of the campground. There was hardly anybody else
at this campground.
Nice and quiet.
And then lo and behold our friends from Stephenville, MT
showed up.
Mark and Ellen Boesch.
I've ridden with Mark a lot----------he's almost retired.......so lookout
when he does.
See the black dog by Marks leg...........that's Sadie.
Best and smartest dog I ever saw......we fell in love with Sadi.
We luv our dog-------but she's not so smart.
Sadly about a week after this picture Sadie fell over dead.
RIP Sadie.
Mark and Ellen had pulled their camper here and we pooled
our resources together and had
some great meals.
Ellen and Debi had just met and became instant friends.........Ellen
is a hoot !!!!!
Me and Mark just talked motorsickle stuff. "Where we going next Mark"
?????
Marks got a Yamaha WR250R and a Yamaha Tenere.
Me and Mark decide to hike a couple miles back to an old
Forest service log cabin.
There are bears in those weeds............I just know it.
Mark is a very experienced hiker and I enjoyed his tales
of some of the stuff he's done that
I thought were pretty extreme and he did them alone.......amongst the bears.
He did carry bear spray with him on this hike.
I didn't last long on the hike---the trail was a 8"
wide deep rut.......you had to put one foot in
front of the other to walk and the weeds covered it so you couldn't even see
it.
These guys hauled butt past us.
Mark and Ellens trailer...........we are sponsored by Wiley
Wallaby black licorice.
I ate 20 lbs. of this stuff on our trip.
Holy crap they had to leave.........what a fun couple.
Home..........Home On The Range.......where the Motorsickles and antelope play.
