Below are a few videos and pictures of
some winter riding I've been doing in Southern Illnois
The first video is of a lot of drone footage to some pretty interest stuff.
Winter 2023
First picture was taken in Cave In Rock, Illinois at the
river ferry.
It runs year round from 6AM to 9:40PM. It can shut down in bad weather or
high winds.
In St. Francisville, Illinois there is an old railroad
bridge which had been made for vehicle traffic.
I've been over it so many times--it is a magnificent piece of history and
so much fun to ride or drive over.
The middle of the bridge use to swivel sideways so barge traffic could go
down or up the river.
Barge traffic can no longer use the river here as the swivel no longer works.
But I've wonder for so many years what the gear mechanism looks like as you
can't see it from on the bridge.
So I flew my drone all over the bridge and got this picture in which you can
plainly see the big gear, 2 small driving gears
and wheels to rotate on-------I have no idea how it was powered.
Built in 1897..google the history as it's so interesting.
The above pictures will all make sense after watching the
video below.
And there is so much more in the video.

Here's the real scoop on the bridge.
